Dedicated to the brave heroes who’ve given everything to our great country.
Here we celebrate the bravery of US service members and first responders. We invite the community to share their stories in this dedicated patriotic space.
What is the purpose of this website?
This site stands in honor of the memory of SGT David K. Haygood of the United States Army. SGT Haygood spent many years exploring Death Valley with his friends and fellow Veterans after retirement. Upon his passing in 2024, this website was created by his son, a law enforcement officer and rescue medic with more than 23 years of service. The flag and plaque seen below were placed by close friends of SGT Haygood who explored Death Valley with him for many years.
If you travel to Death Valley and find the Boxcar Cabin, you will see a flagpole outside.

Inside, you will find a plaque on the wall describing who SGT Haygood was and how this installation works.

Any person may fly a US flag here in honor of an American service member or first responder.
For those seeking to visit the Boxcar Cabin, it is possible to access without a 4×4.
It is located just outside the Death Valley National Park at the following coordinates:
36°26’0.39″N, 117°37’51.63″W
